Crossing time...

Well now that we have officially left the Eastern Standard time zone it feels as though our journey has become more real. I cannot believe that we have actually made is this far.

Tonight we are staying at the Lococo Bed & Breakfast in St. Charles, MO. It is much different than where we were last night - has a rustic and western feel to it. The outskirts of St. Louis are very quaint and I was surprised to see such a Native American influence. It appears that we are the only guests this evening. We are thankful for air conditioning today as a majority of our trip was in 100 degree temperatures with blazing sun and humidity.

We covered a lot of ground, beginning the day in Louisville, KY at Col. Sanders grave - creator of the famous KFC. Then we saw the world's largest baseball bat as well as the world's largest vampire bat. Lunch was quite scrumptious at a local cafe downtown. After passing through the rest of Kentucky we went through Illinois on our way to Missouri. We stopped at a very clean rest stop in Illinois with a beautiful trail that led to wetlands near a farm.

My belly has been satisfied with local cuisine from a restaurant 2 blocks from the B&B called Vivian's Vineyards - I also had a lovely glass of Riesling wine - a fave of a dear friend. Vivian's is quite the experience with a chair from every decade imaginable as well as a hoarders dream of paintings, photos, and eclectic antiques.

I have missed the hospitality of the Midwest and am looking forward to spending time with family over the next few days as we head to Arkansas then Oklahoma.
