Family fun in Oklahoma and Waffle house entertainment...

Blurry-eyed we left my cousin's house in OKC this morning and made our way to a Waffle House for breakfast.

Our lovely entertainment for the meal was an elderly chap with a southern accent and his lady friend. He walked into the establishment shortly after we arrived and declared that everyone chime "Good morning" and people seemed to mumble in response.  Then he sits down and asks one of the staff about her boyfriend. She didn't seem too thrilled by the inquiry replying that he was too nosey.  Then...the server came to the table and the man said "I bet you think this is my wife but she's my girlfriend" to which she said "that's nice."  He then boldly blurted, "Who's your daddy?"  The waitress paused likely from shock and embarrasment. The man repeated the question as if the woman didn't hear him.  She then said " my daddy is my daddy" and the man corrected himself to say "do you have a boyfriend?"  She said no then there was an awkward silence which the man ended with "why not, you are so cute".  She giggled with a hint of discomfort. The waitress explained that she was fine without a boyfriend given that she had a bed and house to herself.  He wasn't satisfied with that being the end of the conversation and said "well then who do you make love to?".  His lady friend gasped and shook her head while the waitress confidently said "no one."

Needless to say we had a fill of chuckles as we drank coffee and enjoyed Texas biscuits.  It was a perfect send off into our long day of driving to New Mexico.

It was so nice to spend time with family and see my grandma. I regret that it has been 10 years since I've visited.  Meeting the new additions to the family and sharing some laughs and stories about our lives - priceless.  I am so lucky to have them in my life despite being far away whenever we are together it's as if time hasn't passed.

My intentions to come back are strong making sure that another decade will not pass between now and my next visit.  Andrew and I will have to make a habit of using Skype more often in the meantime.

Well we've made it halfway across this amazing country in 5 1/2 days. Next we are hitting New Mexico the Arizona, California, and Oregon.  Looks like we'll make it to our new home around the end of next week. It still feels like we are going to turn around and head back to Rhode Island. The trip has provided for a nice transition to our new beginnings - bittersweet.

465 miles until our next B&B experience!

Until we meet again...
